Letter of congratulations from PCT
Mike Pyrah, Chief executive of the PCT writes again to congratulate Wilmslow Health Centre on maintaining its position as one of the best practices in the region for getting an appointment. It received similar letters in 2008.
"To Wilmslow Health Centre,
As you are aware, the National Patient Experience Survey results for Improving Access have recently been published. The PCT has now had an opportunity to analyse and reflect on the results, and to make comparisons with national and PCT benchmarks. We are very pleased to see that your practice has scored consistently well, being one of only 7 practices within Central and Eastern Cheshire PCT who achieved the highest threshold in all 4 criteria - 48 hour access; pre-bookable appointments; ease of telephone access; and the ability to consult a GP of choice. Access can be a challenging problem for many G.P. practices, and you have obviously worked hard to achieve the flexibility between responding to patient demand for urgent appointments, and at the same time, allowing for sufficient pre-bookable appointments. Congratulations on your achievement and keep up the good work!
Yours sincerely
Mike Pyrah
Chief Executive"
Pioneering Specialist Medical Services in The Community:
New Echocardiography and Diagnostic Ultrasound Scan Services.
In 2008, Wilmslow Health Centre was the first practice in the PCT to provide a practice based commissioned service. Dr. Maggie Hack has been providing Echocardiograms (ultrasound scans of the heart) at Wilmslow Health Centre after Wilmslow Health Centre was approved by the PCT to provide the service to all patients of neighbouring surgeries in the area.
Following on from the success of the Echocardiography service, Wilmslow Health Centre has invested heavily in extra diagnostic equipment and in January 2009, it was given the go ahead to provide a rapid access diagnostic ultrasound service open to all patients within the Central and Eastern Cheshire area.
The diagnostic ultrasound service offers a very short wait for scans and, as all scans are performed by consultant radiologists, scan reports are back with the referring GP very quickly after the scan has been performed.
On average, the referring GP can arrange for a consultant to perform a scan on a patient and have the consultant's report at hand within one week of referral. The service provides a much quicker and cost effective service than before without any compromise on quality and has been extremely popular with patients from all over Cheshire.
During the first year of scanning, no patient referred to our service waited more than 10 days to be scanned with more urgent scans being performed often within 24 hours of referral.
How to register as a patient:
Registering at Wilmslow Health Centre couldn't be easier. All you need to do is fill out the form below and hand it in to a receptionist. Your old medical records will then be sent to us automatically from your previous surgery.
How to book an appointment:
All consultations are by appointment made by telephoning 01625 548555 or in person at the reception desk. Routinely you will be given a single appointment to see the doctor. Patients can express a preference to see a doctor of their choice but this may exceed 48 hours. Please book a longer appointment if you have more than one problem you wish to discuss with the doctor. If you require an examination, please inform reception as this will require an extended appointment. When booking an appointment for the nurse you will be asked for the service you require so that the appropriate time can be allocated.
ONLINE BOOKING COMING SOON.
How to obtain a repeat prescription:
Repeat prescriptions are computerised. You will receive a printout of your medication with your prescription. To request a repeat prescription, post the printout in the external letter box with a tick next to the items required. Please allow two working days before collecting your prescription. For reasons of safety we regret we cannot accept repeat prescriptions over the telephone. Prescriptions will be sent to you if you include a stamped, addressed envelope. There is a pharmacy on-site. Local pharmacies offer a repeatable prescribing service, please ask them for details.
Home Visits
The doctors will be happy to visit patients who find it impossible to leave their homes through ill-health or disability only. Please request the visit before 10.00am (except in emergencies). Please give the receptionist as much information as possible so that when planning our rounds we can judge the urgency of each call. Some visits may be made in the afternoon. Babies with temperatures can usually be safely brought to the surgery where they will be seen as soon as possible.
CONFIDENTIALITY
We ask you for personal information so that you can receive appropriate care and treatment. This information is recorded on computer and we are registered under the Data Protection Act. The practice will ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times by all members of the practice team. However, for the effective functioning of a multi-disciplinary team it is sometimes necessary that medical information about you is shared between members of the team. The practice will only release medical information to persons outside the team following written permission from the patient. Request forms for patient access to medical records are available at reception. There is an administration charge (up to a maximum of £50.00).
